Interior work: separate permits from building permission

Does a building manager approving access mean the interior work is approved?
Keep municipal confirmation, property authorisation and access bookings as separate records tied to the actual interior work.
Describe the alteration before asking about approval
Write down whether the request concerns loose contents, finishes, partitions or other building elements. Include the proposed layout where it exists. Toronto lists adding or removing walls and demolishing part of a building among projects needing a permit. Ask Toronto Building about the actual scope rather than assuming interior or non-structural means exempt.
Keep the property decision separate
A landlord or condominium manager can provide requirements for the premises and common areas. That permission is a different decision from a municipal permit. Obtain the applicable written direction and identify any unresolved conditions before the removal scope is finalised. This guide does not interpret a lease or condominium agreement.
An access booking is another record
An elevator reservation or loading appointment tells the crew when and how it may reach the work. It does not establish which walls, finishes or services may be disturbed. Keep the booking reference with the access plan, and the approved work description with the scope. Changes to either need the relevant contact to review them.
Use a three-column check
For each requested task, note municipal confirmation, property authorisation and access readiness. Mark not applicable only when the responsible source has established that answer. In a simple example, the loading slot may be booked while a revised wall layout is still awaiting a decision. The slot does not authorise that wall work. Other GTA municipalities have their own application channels.
