Demolition handover: a record for the next trade

By Anchor Demolition Scarborough · Updated
From Anchor’s authorised work library. General scope imagery, not an attributed case study for this guide.
What should be recorded when demolition finishes and another contractor takes over? An area-by-area acceptance record compares the agreed endpoint with the actual exposed condition and keeps unresolved work assigned.
Use this planning record to prepare a discussion with Anchor about the actual property. It describes decisions for assessment, not instructions to carry out demolition.
Start from the written endpoint
Bring the agreed removal list to the walk-through. Check each included area and retained boundary rather than using a general statement that demolition is complete. A handover is most useful when both sides can point to the same scope and photographs.
Record what is visible and what remains unknown
Describe exposed surfaces and any unresolved condition without certifying work outside the removal scope. If the next trade requires further investigation or preparation, name that question and its responsible contact. An exposed wall or floor is not automatically ready for its final finish.
Your scope record
Use these fields to prepare the discussion. Leave an unknown item marked for assessment.
- Area and original scope reference
- Observed endpoint
- Retained items checked
- Outstanding question and contact
- Receiving-trade acknowledgement
Close the debris and access items
Confirm included debris has left and the agreed sweep is complete. Check the carry route and loading area against the scope. Record any retained material or excluded load so the next trade does not assume it is abandoned or ready to use.
Assign the outstanding list
For each open item, write who will decide or act and what information they need. Keep this list with the handover photographs. If further removal is requested, treat it as a reviewed scope change rather than an informal instruction to the departing crew.
An example of a clear boundary
Illustrative record: wall finish removed to the agreed boundary; retained trim checked; substrate preparation referred to the finishing contractor. No installation-readiness claim is implied.
