Scrap metal removal: what to confirm

Accessible, released metal. Connected equipment and uncertain materials need prior assessment.

Identify what leaves, what stays and the condition you need for the next stage. Share access restrictions, attached services and any known material concerns for the site assessment.

What's included

  • Appliances with refrigerant already removed where required
  • Metal railings and fencing released from the structure
  • Ductwork and non-live pipes from completed renovation work
  • Bed frames, barbecues and other household metal
  • Cast iron tubs and radiators made safe for handling
  • Separate metal loading for recycling where accepted

How the job runs

  1. 01

    Identify the metal

List the item types, location and whether they remain attached to a building or service.

  2. 02

    Check readiness

We confirm that connections are safe, refrigerant requirements are complete and structural steel is not part of the request.

  3. 03

    Plan access

Dense and awkward pieces are matched to a carry route, lifting approach and loading location.

  4. 04

    Release included items

Only non-structural items covered by the scope are prepared for movement; trade disconnections occur beforehand.

  5. 05

    Load separately

Metal is kept apart from mixed debris where practical so it can enter a suitable recycling stream.

  6. 06

    Sweep the area

Loose fragments from the included removal are collected before the crew confirms the handover.

Before we start

Owners and contractors should identify whether any item is connected to gas, water, electrical, mechanical or building systems. Those services must be isolated by the appropriate party before removal. Refrigerant recovery for applicable appliances must be completed by a certified technician.

This service does not make structural steel claims. Beams, columns or metal that may support the building require a separate engineered scope and are not treated as ordinary scrap collection.

Where building materials will be disturbed, OHSA section 30 makes the owner responsible for identifying designated substances before the work is tendered or arranged. Any required asbestos work affecting the demolition scope is handled by a qualified abatement contractor under O. Reg. 278/05 before ordinary demolition proceeds. Anchor Demolition Scarborough does not perform abatement.

Household and renovation metal

Common collections include prepared appliances, railings, fencing, duct sections, pipes, bed frames, barbecues, tubs and radiators. Item condition matters because sharp edges, attached glass, residual contents or concrete footings can change the handling plan. The site review separates straightforward carry-out from work requiring another trade.

Metal released during a renovation should be staged without blocking exits or burying unsafe edges. If it remains fastened to retained construction, the written scope identifies who releases it and what surfaces must stay intact. The crew does not cut unknown services or dismantle structural members as part of a general scrap load.

Separate loading for recovery

Keeping metal out of mixed debris makes the receiving route clearer and avoids unnecessary repeated handling. Pieces are reduced only where that can be done safely within the confirmed scope. Dense cast iron and long railings need particular attention to stairs, turns, parked vehicles and finished surfaces.

The service is removal and routing, not a purchase program. No payment for metal is offered or represented. Once the listed material is loaded, the crew checks the collection area for loose fasteners and fragments and leaves it to the agreed broom-swept condition.

Questions we get asked

Do you pay for collected scrap metal?
No. This page describes a removal service, not the purchase of metal. The scope covers handling, loading and routing accepted household or renovation scrap through an appropriate stream after access and material readiness are confirmed.
Can a refrigerator go with the metal load?
An appliance can be considered after it is disconnected and any required refrigerant recovery has been completed by a certified technician. The crew needs that preparation confirmed before the item is moved or included with other metal.
Will you remove structural steel?
General scrap collection does not include structural steel. Any beam, column or supporting member requires a separate demolition and engineering review. Unknown metal attached to the structure remains in place until its role and safe removal method are established.
Can railings and fencing be included?
Non-structural railings and fence sections can be included when ownership, boundaries and attachment points are clear. Concrete footings, live electrical components or connections to retained construction must be identified separately in the written scope.
