Does a locate package prove the utilities are ready for demolition?
Track underground-service information separately from confirmation that connected services are ready for the agreed demolition.
Record the two questions separately
A locate request concerns underground infrastructure in the planned digging area. Disconnection concerns the status of a service connected to the building or item being removed. Do not treat paint, flags or a locate response as a disconnection certificate. Ask the responsible utility or trade what confirmation applies to the planned demolition.
Match the locate information to the work
Ontario's excavation guidance addresses locating underground services and communicating with utility owners. Share the actual planned work area and current locate package with the contractor. If the area changes, tell the responsible contact; documents for another part of the property are not evidence for the new area.
Include privately owned lines in the questions
A pool, detached structure or exterior installation may have service connections the owner needs to disclose. Ask the locating provider and utility contacts what their information covers and which private infrastructure needs a separate process. Do not infer that an absent mark establishes an absent line.
Create a readiness handoff
List each service, its responsible provider, the requested action and the confirmation received. Keep account closure or equipment-return paperwork separate from physical readiness. For example, ending a rental agreement is not itself proof that the item is disconnected. The demolition contact needs the applicable records before treating the relevant area as released. Anchor's removal scope does not replace utility or trade work.
