When should different demolition materials be described separately to the collection provider?

Describe material origin and whether streams are mixed, then confirm receiving acceptance and sorting responsibilities before collection.

Describe each material and where it came from

Identify concrete, masonry, wood and other visible material separately, along with the work that produced it. A mixed pile photograph may conceal important differences. Do not describe a material as clean merely because it looks uniform; coatings, attachments, unknown residues and the original use may matter to the receiving provider.

Ask before combining streams

Tell the provider which materials are already mixed and which remain separate. Ask what the intended receiving route accepts and whether separation is part of the agreed collection. Do not assume a bin suited to one material can accept every other material from the same renovation. Acceptance is a provider and facility question.

Keep uncertain material out of the ordinary description

Disclose unknown or suspect material instead of placing it under a general wood or rubble label. The existing prohibited-material guide explains why some items need separate channels. Do not break or sort questionable building material to make the pile look simpler for a quotation.

Agree who does what on site

Record whether the owner has already separated accepted streams or whether the removal scope includes a particular sorting task. Ask how that arrangement affects loading access and the material left behind. An illustrative record might identify a concrete pile, a separate timber pile and an unresolved mixed corner. The unresolved corner remains visible in the agreement rather than being treated as included by default.
