Anchor Demolition Scarborough · Reviewed
A lift proposal can require building alterations as well as equipment installation. Ask the lift supplier and project designer to define the required openings before treating a shaft, floor or wall as available for demolition.
Begin with the supplier and structural plans
Identify the proposed lift location and the existing rooms affected. The supplier describes its equipment and installation interfaces; the responsible professionals determine the building alterations. There is no standard pit or opening size that can be safely taken from a general removal guide.
Anchor assesses the ordinary commercial demolition contribution where suitable. Lift equipment removal, shaft entry and commissioning are not included by implication.
Compare the possible building packages
| Building interface | Question for the project team |
|---|---|
| Existing room beside the proposed lift | Which cupboards, finishes or partitions need to leave? |
| Floor opening or base | What reviewed structural/concrete removal is required? |
| Retained corridor and doors | Which edges remain and who reinstates them? |
| Temporary enclosure | Who supplies and maintains it between trades? |
The concrete service is an assessment route for defined concrete work, not a promise to form any supplier's pit or shaft. Support, access and existing services need project-specific decisions.
Keep the occupied building separate from the equipment programme
The owner and GC resolve how retained rooms are accessed and whether parts of the premises can remain in use. A future lift position does not establish a usable route during installation. Identify where demolition ends, where the equipment installer takes over and who completes finishes afterwards.
In an illustrative office retrofit, ordinary cabinetry and a reviewed partition section are removed near the proposed lift area. Structural openings remain a separately reviewed package. Keeping those descriptions distinct prevents an interior enquiry from becoming an undefined lift-construction contract.
Ask about the reviewed contribution
Request an Anchor assessment with supplier drawings, the designer or GC contact and the retained-room plan. Use the trade handover guide to describe the physical condition the next contractor expects. Acceptance follows the defined work and site conditions; equipment installation and approval remain with their responsible parties.
